Find Birth and Wellness Center on Facebook

The midwives of Birth and Wellness Center are pleased to offer healthcare throughout a woman’s life span.  If you would like to know more about what we have to offer or about our midwives, we invite you to contact us or schedule a free consultation visit at your convenience. While we work toward opening an accredited birth center, we offer these options for care:

Pre-conception care

The time prior to becoming pregnant is very important to the health of both mother and baby. We offer counseling, information and lab testing to ensure that your pregnancy gets off to the best start possible.

Pregnancy Tests

Free urine pregnancy tests are available by appointment.

Prenatal care

In the midwifery model of care, prenatal care is a collaboration between the mother, her loved ones, and the midwife. Prenatal visits include lots of education, routine screening labs, and plenty of time for the midwife to get to know mom and baby and their individual health needs. All along the way, families will be given the information they need to make choices about their pregnancy, birth and early parenting experience. Prenatal visits are generally 30-60 minutes in length. Our midwives see their clients on about the same schedule as obstetricians, every 4 weeks in early pregnancy, every 2 weeks from 28-36 weeks, and every week from 37 weeks to birth.

Ultrasound

Jessica Henman, CNM, CPM has training and experience in limited obstetric ultrasound. She can confirm pregnancy dates, evaluate threatened miscarriage, and confirm baby's position. We might even take a peek at the sex of the baby. This service does not replace scans performed by registered sonographers to diagnose anomalies. Full anatomy scans and other medical evaluations are available as needed or by client request, through referral to an ultrasound provider, either independent or hospital-based.

Home birth

Clients receiving prenatal care from Birth and Wellness Center midwives, who are experiencing a healthy pregnancy, may choose to give birth at home. We specialize in water birth and in tailoring each birth experience to the needs and dreams of the family. Two qualified professionals, both familiar to the family, will attend each birth. Our birth care begins in early labor and extends for several hours after the birth, when mother and baby have recovered from their work, and the new family is ready for their “babymoon”.

Postpartum and Newborn care

The time immediately following birth is full of change, wonder, and a little bit of a learning curve! To help guide families through this exciting time, we offer home visits within 48 hours of each home birth. Our midwives are available at all times by phone, email, or in person throughout the weeks following birth, and will visit with the family at 1-2 weeks, and 4 weeks after the birth. During these visits we assess mother and baby’s health, family adjustment, and breastfeeding, as well as answering questions and connecting families with any needed resources.

Well Woman Care

Our midwives are experts in women’s health throughout the lifespan. In partnership with Dr Poppy Daniels, we offer Pap smears, hormone and vitamin evaluation, holistic family planning, breast care, menopause care, and other services to enhance the wellness of women at any age.
